How to get to Osa Peninsula

From San Jose to Puerto Jimenez

  • By car. In San Jose, head south towards Jaco (CR27 then CR34). You will pass through Jaco, Quepos, Dominical, Uvita. In Palmar Norte, join the Interamerican (CR2). In chacarita, head towards Puerto Jimenez (CR245) by turning right just after the petrol station. Distance: 379 km. Duration of the trip: 6:00 hours.

  • By plane. Sansa Airlines offers several daily flights between San José and Puerto Jimenez. Reservations on the Internet (www.flysansa.com). Departures from San Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose. The trip allows you to discover the country from the sky. The itinerary passes through the coast of the South Pacific, the Sierpe-Terraba mangrove, the Osa Peninsula, the Golfo Dulce. Duration of the trip: 55 minutes (It can happen that a stopover is added to the flight in Quepos or Golfito which lengthens the duration of the trip). Fares: between 120 and 160 dollars per flight.

  • By bus. Transportes Grupo Blanco operates the San Jose - Puerto Jimenez line. Reservations and information on the Web site (www.grupoblanco.cr). Departures from the terminal in Barrio Mexico in the center of San Jose (600 norte del parque la Merced / Calle 12 between Avenida 7 and Avenida 9). Timetables: 12:00. Duration of the trip: between 7 and 8 hours. Fares: 7,500 colones.

  • By Taxi / Shuttle. There are cabs that offer regular or on-demand service, shared or private. Rates are very different depending on the service. They range from $80 to $500. Duration of the trip: 6:00 hours. We can book this service for you if you wish.
